Trauma Survivors Network: Laurie's Story

The Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) is a community of patients and survivors looking to connect with one another and rebuild their lives after a serious injury. Research suggests that we can improve post-trauma outcomes by providing peer support programs to patients and their families, helping them connect with one another, and teaching them the skills to self-manage the day-to-day challenges of recovery.

One key to the success of the TSN program at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is helping trauma survivors understand they're not alone.

Traumatic injuries can result in isolation and difficulties expressing emotions and needs. The TSN connects survivors with each other, helping survivors receive support from someone who actually “gets it." Our trained peer visitors are trauma survivors who offer hope to our newly injured patients and their families.

Support groups

TSN holds monthly support groups for survivors and caregivers. These groups offer support, coping skills, and education to attendees. All aspects of the program are free to participants and coordinated by the TSN Coordinator.

All aspects of the program are free to participants and coordinated by the Trauma Survivors Network Coordinator. For more information, call 703-776-4930 or email shira.rothberg@inova.org.

For healthcare professionals

Through TSN, trauma survivors have a unique opportunity to share their experiences with healthcare professionals. These presentations expose the physical and emotional recovery many survivors experience. This allows healthcare professionals to see how they contributed to a patient’s recovery and understand what happens after a patient goes home.
